Server seems to be spiking a lot. Ever since this Friday, everytime I play, everyone's ping is higher than usual.

I get the same feeling, and for some reason it´s a constant ¨everyones ping is raising and spiking together¨ symptom (I got screenies proving up to 800 pings all together which is crazy). I´ve been logged and see other admins logged use the same procedure of pausing, waiting for a big spiker to come in, we´ve split together looking for spikers in the other servers (CH, CTF, DM, SlowMo) nothing. Seems to be the server for real    Probably a hardware failure? could it be the storms going in AZ?

yeah, even a server pause didnt lower the pings, which in the past has always lowered the pings!

Everyone,

Let me tell you more about the changes that have been made:

1.  As you know, we are now on 2X faster connection - but it is broadband (wireless).  This is new to chhosting, we will have to learn how to master it.

2.  TURBO+ TDM has been moved to a more powerful server - thanks to your donations!   :bravo_2:

3.  The new server is being optimized as quickly as possible - only so many of the old tricks can be applied to the new technology (old = Intel, New = AMD).

We are aware of the new high ping issues - let me remind everyone that the ping delta is a problem - not the ping value itself (delta = max ping minus min ping).

Soon the new server will be fully optimized, please be patient.  All of your feedback is important!

ATTENTION ALL WESTERN CANADA PLAYERS
« Reply #26 on: December 20, 2010, 01:49:41 AM »
Please read this topic - it identifies a new route for western Canada players - you will have higher ping and reduced bullet damage/registration.

http://chhosting.org/index.php?topic=1448.0

Basically, you will have to learn to compensate for this new route.

You can trace your route to the server in a command window.  Issue this command.

tracert 12.172.19.42

and post your results here - you may see up to 23 hops, vs. the old ip had only 7.  This issue is because we left Qwest and are now with AT&T.

Today, sound lag was present and reported by several players (including myself), didnt just happen for one map (it wasn't depot, either), but for a few, eg. construction, deadwood and streets.

And pings spiked even when there were only 4 players in the server (i know that when high pingers join, the server will spike a bit, but damn, the new connection is really sensitive).

Ghetto I sense your unhappiness - I too want to resolve all our current problems.

We have left Qwest permanently - Qwest owes us a HUGE amount of money for years of double billing - we will be taking them to court as they refuse to reimburse us (the reimbursement is tied up in their VP red tape).

Anyway, Qwest does not offer anything to compete with our new ISP's bandwidth.

Please help me in your feedback - try to give the close time of day of the problems you report, so I can look through the logs at the other servers.  I want to narrow down if the issue is isolated to the new server machine - or otherwise.

In other words, redirect your anger to give me constructive criticism - thats the only way I can implement a fix.

Many Thanks,
CH
